Using boundary fits to determine spectra pseudo-continua
The appropriate determination of spectra pseudo-continua is one of the critical steps when trying to retrieve scientifically relevant information from spectroscopic spectra. Typically one derives the pseudo-continua by locally fitting straight lines around some relevant spectroscopic features, using for that purpose the flux in neighbourhoud regions located at both sides of the considered features. This is how most line-strength indices, e.g. equivalent widths, are measured. This poster describes a different approach, in which the pseudo-continua are computed by using boundary fits. This approach turns out to provide better results than the usual straight line approach.
